A Letter from Luna
Dear New Moon Girls – yes, that’s you!
The first thing I want to say is that you are AWESOME. You amaze me every day with how you go out in the world and do what you do. You bring your whole self – your feelings and your thoughts and your body and your spirit – everywhere you go.
This means so much to me because I’m the spirit of New Moon Girls. I’ve been here since the beginning and I’m always here for every girl who needs someone to listen.
Because, lucky me, you tell me about it! You write things and send them to me. You make drawings and paintings and digital art of Luna Tics (yup, they’re named for me!) and for my Art Gallery in the magazine and online.
You take photos to show me and all the New Moon Girls what you love, who inspires you, and the creative depths of your imagination.
You tell us about your adventures in Go Girl. You ask the other members for advice on difficult and embarrassing stuff in Ask A Girl. And you give awesome advice to each other there, too. You write poems about happy and sad things.
You give your honest opinions in polls and articles on important issues. You show respect and compassion even for girls you disagree with. You listen to them and think things through and are willing to consider changing your mind.
Your feelings are powerful and help you keep in touch with your inner self. You hate injustice and you do whatever you can to make the world a better place for everyone. You work together to change things that need changing and you stand up in sisterhood with those who are not treated fairly.
You like to know the stories of women and girls from the past and present and from all over the world. The stories that belong in our history and text books and movies and games and politics and business and science and award lists. But those stories are missing in too, too many places.
That’s why we invented New Moon Girls – to give you and all girls this place to share and hear the stories of women and girls told by the girls and women themselves. You make this happen every day when you contribute your creations to our magazine and online and put them out in the world so everyone can see that they need to Listen To Girls!
