We know the word is controversial and some people think we shouldn’t even use it anymore. But we think the problem is when people can’t feel that we ourselves are beautiful. We think it’s one way girls and women are taught to constantly judge ourselves and others as “not good enough.”
We think pop culture ideas of beautiful are the real problem. In our opinion, beautiful is not the problem.
Beautiful is the feeling of awesomeness in yourself, even if it’s only there for a minute. The feeling of recognizing your experiences of beautiful in everyday life. It’s the feeling of accepting yourself. The feeling of trusting yourself to do what’s right for you. The feeling of being brave and stepping up to try something that you don’t already know you can ace. The feeling of supporting another person who’s being brave.
It definitely shouldn’t make anyone feel bad about herself! With you and lots of other people we’re changing the meaning of beauty by honoring girls and women who are beautiful being themselves.
That’s why we want you to tell us how you are beautiful. And we want you to tell us how people you care about are beautiful. You can be brave enough to share why and when you feel beautiful. Reading what you write about yourself and other beautiful people will help other people be beautiful. Let’s not let pop culture take the power of beautiful away from us!
Everyone who is nominated when you click the button below and tell us why they are beautiful will be featured in May and June. You can nominate as many people as you want to support and inspire us all!
Nominate people for the beauty of who they are and what they do – and tell your friends to nominate too!
Noelani is the most genuine and perceptive person I know. She has a way of truly seeing people (and our cat, Tomeytto). She observes and allows the truth to come out of its own accord, and acts based on that. I’m her mom and recently we moved across the country to Oregon. Noelani has been a shy kid, but she decided to cut her beautiful long hair into a funky pixie ‘do and dye it purple. She wanted to give herself the opportunity to shine out instead of hiding herself. I am so proud of Noelani. She has fun with her appearance but she never lets it define her. She is her own amazing girl, and that is what is so beautiful about her.
Nominate someone and it will be published on Beautiful People Today page!
