She is funny, caring, and smart. She sticks up for someone no matter what. I have the worst day ever, and whenever I come to her, she is there for me. She is a shoulder to cry on for me, and I am a shoulder to cry on for her. I honestly couldn’t ask for a better friend.
I nominate my step mom Missy because of what she did the other day. We were driving along on a road we usually didn’t take because she had wanted to show my brother and I her grandparent’s old house. We passed the house and kept driving when we looked out the window and there was a man lying down on the side of the road with some of his worried looking friends standing around him. She pulled over and asked them if they needed help and that if they did, she could help because she was a nurse. We waited for a while as she knelt by the man and took his pulse and waited for the ambulance. This I thought, was worth a nomination because she didn’t keep driving, she pulled over and helped that man. Go Missy!
Kezia is my BFF, she is AWESOME! Every time were together we have a blast! She loves to dance, swim, surf, sing, take amazing under water photography and express herself in unique ways! She cares for and loves animals and her and her family have rescued multiple cats and dogs! She is strong and intelligent. She’s always there for me and never lets me down! Kezia is a true model of friendship and is beautiful inside and out! Kezia is my beautiful girl and truly beautiful friend!
Rachel is FEARLESS and FIERCE. She’s always up for an adventure, whether it’s riding her minibike, trying a new roller coaster, or tasting the spiciest food she can find. She points out injustice and questions everything. She loves her family and has a wicked sense of humor. She loves to experiment with different drawing techniques. She plays the clarinet with panache, and likes to try out percussion instruments whenever she has an opportunity. She plays softball with enthusiasm, and rides horses, too. One time she fell off, but landed on her feet still holding the reins. Of course, she hopped right back on. Rachel wants to learn to fly and to design video games.
Cora is such a loving and conscious young lady. She has always worked as a peace mediator between friends and cousins and enjoys helping others a lot. She is artistic with a talent for drawing that blows me away. She dances at least 4 hours a week and is part of a local dance company that she is very dedicated to. She is silly but respectful, humble yet courageous. Cora is currently working on making rag rugs from recycled t-shirts to sell at a community fair this year. She is part of a home school co-op where she has friends that are less competitive and more diverse than if she was in public school. She is excited to help work in her parent’s small health food store some day soon and to go to junior herbalist classes this summer. Even though she gets mistaken for 16 years old because of her height, she never feels like she needs to act older or too cool. She is best friends with her grandparents and goes to church with them most Sundays. Cora cares about peoples feelings and is starting to learn about astrology charts so she can know her self and others better. Cora is beautiful!!!!
Sophie is the kindest and most idealistic person I know. She is creative and passionate about reading and writing and she can almost always be found with a book in her hand. She loves to sing and she has an angelic voice. But the most remarkable thing about Sophie is her sensitivity to others, particularly those less fortunate than her. She does not tolerate unkindness and always sticks up for people who can’t stick up for themselves. In that way, Sophie is an inspiration to me.
From the moment Carmen entered the world, I knew she was unique. Not only did she not make a sound after she was born, she gazed about the room as if she were in familiar territory and among familiar people. Carmen is both head strong yet sensitive. Her preschool teacher pulled me aside one morning and said, “Carmen is going to move mountains!” and I believe it with every fiber of my being. She is extremely bright and terribly witty. She keeps her family and friends in stitches (and much eye-rolling) with her jokes and puns and has a vivid and creative imagination. She is passionate about women’s/girl’s rights, protecting our environment, and the welfare of animals. Nothing gets her more worked up than factory-farming, CAFO’s, and the giant island of plastic floating in the Pacific Ocean. This summer she has adopted a plot in our community’s Village Garden to show that gardening isn’t just for adults. Keeping in touch with friends and family is very important to her and she’s an avid letter-writer in a world of email and texting. Not only does she handwrite the letters, she elaborately decorates the envelopes. She has a three-year correspondence with her grandfather in which they write their letters in some type of code: (written backwards, with invisible ink, using their own version of hieroglyphics, etc.) Carmen’s beauty shines through in so many ways. She plays piano, loves to sing, is quite the acrobat, and can spend countless hours with her nose in a book and a cat on her lap. Her dreams for her future are as diverse as she is: president of the United States (to create positive change), a marine biologist (to study and protect the oceans and their inhabitants), an artist (to add her own sense of beauty to the world). This unique and caring girl is so special to me. As Carmen would say, “She’s Eggs-trordinary, and that’s no Yolk!”
Maya is beautiful when she plays the viola or sings with the worship team in church. She is also beautiful in her love for her family and friends, especially her little sister, Ella. Maya always does her best, whether she is performing, doing homework, or showing others she cares about them. She is active in EChO, which raises money for special-needs orphans in China. I am so proud of my daughter, beautiful inside and out.
Caroline has beauty inside and out. She is a wonderful daughter, niece, cousin, sister and auntie. She is loyal to her friends. Caroline knows that there are great injustices in the world, and I believe that someday she will work for justice. She is passionate about circus arts and gymnastics. I admire how hard she works and how strong she has become. Caroline is also very creative and a great actor. She recently stole the show in her class play with her comic portrayal of a Russian ballet teacher. Her accent was perfect! Some her favorite foods are ice cream, kale (joke!), carrots, broccoli, cantaloupe, and mango. Her favorite movies include First Position, Dolphin Tale, Finding Nemo, the Hunger Games, and the Parent Trap. Caroline likes to read a lot. Two of her favorite books are The Fault in Our Stars and Taking Flight.
My parents tell me I’m beautiful but I need help on believing my mom and dad. Here are some things I feel are my special awesomeness: People appreciate my kindness and willingness to do scary things and say I’m very brave. When my friend Winter was being bullied I was courageous and spoke up, saying “Why are you picking on her?” I’m very good at singing and got into an honor choir that I had to audition for. My favorite body parts are my feet because I love, love, love running. I like to run with my dad. I’m creative in drawing really good pictures of people and making up new food dishes.
Lucy is AMAZING! Her cats Butterscotch and Ghost are her best friends, (but, as she explains) I am a close second. She hates makeup and refuses to wear anything that a “normal” girl would wear! She’s insane! She hisses at complete strangers if she thinks they are gossiping or being mean. She is amazing at math and can is seventh grade level even though she is almost nine. She is kind. Everybody she meets likes her. And she says she won’t be like the teenagers in movies because she won’t wear make up, won’t have a boyfriend, and won’t gossip. When I cut my hair very short she cut it to, and we’re together. Though I’m home-schooled we hang out a lot. We call and e-mail each other, and we decided to send each other care packages in the mail once! She always does what she calls a “death hug” where she squeezes me until we both can’t take it and completely break out laughing. She has been training her cat to be a hospital cat for two years and plans someday to have her cat go to hospitals and help. She ran a 5K once and watched everyone come in, she was the first one to finish. We started this club where we help different poor countries and their girls so that they can go to school and not have to work at home all day. When my mom asks me who I want to invite to my birthday she’s one of my first, sleepover? Lucy. Hanging out? My wonderful friend, Lucy. She is beautiful, kind, funny, smart, insanely weird, and most of all, a beautiful girl.
Lola is unique and special to me because she is a good friend and if she believes something, she doesn’t let people bring her down. Lola is always nice and is the best friend you could ever have.
P.S. she is very funny :P.
I am nominating my friend Olivia. She is so brave and strong. In 5th grade, her mom died of Brain Cancer. A few months later, a man off the street attempted to do some very inappropriate things! She now suffers from severe depression, and yet, she came to school everyday with a bright smile and a positive attitude. She expresses her depression through art. Her pieces are extremely impressive. She has found a group of friends with a similar situation. Go Livy!
Ilana is a very special 11.5 year old. Every day she is faced with a number of sensory processing challenges that make it a little harder than the average kid. Ilana has to work a little harder for many things that come naturally and easily to most kids her age; like reading, sitting still at the table, curbing her impulsivity, etc. But she is one uber-determined kid and utilizes many of the tools and techniques that she has learned during her time at occupational therapy in order to make each day the best it can be. She loves to horseback ride, ski, and dance. Swinging, jumping and spinning all make her feel stronger and more prepared to face each day. Here she is in this photo; using the therapy hammock to swing, spin and flip!
Jill is my daughter. She has taught me more about being a woman than I ever imagined possible. From her first hair bow to her first assertive, “NO” when I wanted to put that bow in her hair, she has inspired me to become a woman who knows what she wants. Watching her explore with colours in her free spirited way, inspired me to pick up a paint brush and truly enjoy creating alongside her. She can sit in her room and listen to music for hours. She has a smile that lights up my heart. She cries when she is sad and golly we sure know it if she gets mad. She taught me to believe in fairies and magic. To believe in myself as a woman. Her inner beauty is that in ten years being her mother, I saw self love, self respect, and a woman wise beyond her years in a way I didn’t even know I had been looking for.
Quincy Rose is passionate about dance. She is always dancing. Whether she is in her ballet class or in our bedroom, she is doing some sort of turn or some sort of dance thingy. She has worked hard and over come difficulties. Even though she is now injured (she has this sort of foot thingy and has a boot on) I know that once she has her boot off she will get right back to dancing. Quincy Rose is a very funny sister and girl. I can’t get through a single dinner without her cracking me up halfway through. Dinner is never dinner if Quincy Rose doesn’t tell a joke during it. She loves the color pink and all animals. Especially unicorns. And dogs. And bunnies. And elephants. And pegasi. And okay, a lot of animals. She is always willing to take our dogs on walks. If anyone is sad she has the amazing ability to make them smile through their tears. Quincy Rose makes me a better person. I would not have the strength I have today to overcome difficulties and failures if my little sister was not their to cheer me along through it. Even though she and I don’t always get along (we’re not perfect) it is rare for us to have a fight that lasts more than ten minutes. After ten minutes, both of us just start laughing so hard it’s not really a fight anymore.
Quincy Rose hates to see her friends sad or being bullied. One of her friends was being bullied and Quincy Rose stood up to them in her own quiet way. She always has a way to make a good song better by making it worse (that was one of the weirdest sentences I have every written). For example, the song Santa Fe from Newsies. Quincy Rose decided that the tune needed some adjustment. Her version is terrible, but so funny and great.
Quincy Rose is a nut. She is just a ball of energy. She bounces from here to there making everyone smile and energetic with her. And if you ever need anyone to build a robotic talking snake, she’s the one to ask.
Quincy Rose will always go to musicals and plays with me and we have fun combining Pippin with Wicked with Newsies. Quincy has the ability to help me Defy Gravity and Seize the Day. She’ll always Think About the Sun, Pippin (quote, Pippin, Newsies and Wicked. It was terrible joke, but I had too)
Josie is my sister and she is SO amazing! She loves dancing, playing piano and flute, Reading, just being herself, and lots of other things. She always stands up for me when someone’s being mean to me and she always sits with me wham I’m sad. Even though sometimes she really annoys me and I just want her to go away, Deep down I know we will alway figure out a way to resolve that argument. She always loves to be unique and is definitely my role model. She loves the color orange. And she loves Minions from Despicable Me. Either wearing one on her shirt, or changing her screen saver to a minion dressed as Harry Potter, I always know its Josie’s if it has a giant minion on it or it says her name on the tag. A meal is never a meal unless Josie does one of her famous spit takes! Josie is the best sister I could ever wish for!!! 🙂
My Mom is really awesome. She understands everything. I can go up to her and just talk and talk and talk about every thing that drives me ****** and what I hate and blah blah blah. She loves painting, drawing, hanging out with our cat Tortie, reading, knitting, sewing, and lots more. She is an artist and a really good one at that. She has a lot of patience and loves animals, all kinds! I hope to be like her when I grow up.
