Alexa says her best friend, Maya, 10, NY, is a Beautiful Girl because . . .

She is kind to everyone she meets even if they are not the nicest person. She stands up for herself and her friends and has a lot of interests including baking, singing, writing books or short stories and playing with her friends. At Adventure Camp she faced a lot of challenges but was up for them. Maya has 3 precious pets and loves them very much. She plays with barbies and absolutely loves eating desserts. Especially if she made it. Maya is a great person and an amazing best friend. And whenever she comes over or I go to her house we always bake something. When we have two choices about what to play we don’t want to hurt one anothers’ feelings. We ran a lemonade stand to raise money for children with cancer. We made over $700! She is always partly excited for things even if she is also nervous. She is definitely a go-getter. I love her as a friend and that will never change. Love, Alexa

of the stories she writes, how she’s always been my friend and shared every thing with me and the imaginary games we used to play when we were little. Scout loves to read books, splash in her pool, and listen to music. She climbs trees with me and once we were courageous when we went alone on a hike with no adults. She plays truth or dare, loves books (harry potter), swimming, playing video games, and making art and stories, and she has sensory issues but it doesn’t hold her back!

Dear Luna ~ I made Lilys’ (11, OR) recipe for Onion and Mushroom Soup, and oh my goodness, it was amazing!! It was gone within ONE DAY, and therefore I recommend making it! It’s so tasty!! Hugs!! – Mason, 13, OR

Mushroom & Onion Soup by Lily, 11, OR

Ingredients:
1 TBSP butter
1/2 TBSP Olive oil
1/2 an onion
1 portobello mushroom
1/4 cup of milk
1/2 cup of water
1/4 cup Marsala cooking wine
1 TBSP All-purpose flour
1/4 tsp Pepper
1/4 tsp Salt

First, add butter and olive oil to a medium-sized pot over medium heat. While that is heating up, peel and dice the onion, and then add it to the pot.

Dice the portabello mushroom to desired thickness and add it in. Let that cook for 2 minutes, and then add in the Marsala wine. Let that cook for around 5 minutes.

Add the flour, and then the water. Stir well and increase heat to a boil. When it comes to a rolling boil, reduce heat to low and simmer for 10 minutes, or until thickened. After that, add milk and seasoning. Enjoy! ~Lily, 11, OR

In my Homeschool spelling workbook, you have to highlight all the base words, suffixes, and prefixes in a paragraph about someone from history. Each new paragraph is a lesson, and there 36 lessons. Only 6 of those lessons are about women!!! 6! And the 30 other guys they talk about aren’t even that interesting. They’re all people I’ve heard of. The theme of this book is “Modern Milestones”, all about people who invented or proved big things. There are plenty of awesome women from history out there – so why can’t they put more of them in the book? I will be sending the company an email. GRRR!!! ~Mar, 12, NJ

Ruthy’s Vegan Dandelion Ice Cream With Three Wishes Inside!

My mom came up with the idea to put dandelions in ice cream, to use some of the thousands of dandelions in our yard. I love gathering the dandelions, it’s great fun looking for the prettiest ones. And I love the transformation that the ice cream maker or freezer does, making what looks a bit like a thickish milk into, well, ice cream.

Vegan Dandelion Ice Cream For Three

INGREDIENTS:
1 cup cashews, soaked overnight or for 4+ hours
1 cup nut milk or other nondairy milk
1/2 cup dandelion petals
1/6-1/4 cup maple syrup
A few blueberries, to taste
A few lilac blossoms (optional)

INSTRUCTIONS:
Blend all ingredients together. Pour into bowl or container, and freeze, stirring every 30 minutes. Or, if you have an ice cream maker, churn in that until whatever your desired consistency is. Serve in three bowls.
Put an extra blueberry and a lilac flower or two on top for garnish, if you wish.
Eat!

It is not a baked good, so I won’t bake anything inside, but rather sprinkle wishes on top with the lilac and/or blueberries. As this is a recipe for three, three people get wishes. My own wish is for the climate crisis to cease, and for all humans around the world to be educated and working to fight climate change.

I don’t know if Editor Autumn and other mods can make this happen because the new website is still being explored in a variety of ways, but if we can work towards it, I think we could have such a cool form of communication during this odd time! Dear Luna, Hi! I have read both letters from other girls on similar topics, but mine is more of a suggestion! I read across “It would be amazing for there to be some sort of pen pals or messaging system” in Ruthy’s letter, and that gave me an idea! Maybe instead of a real chat site, there could be some kind of one-on-one thing that you could sign up for, and then get paired with another girl to chat! It may be easier to moderate/make, and I think it would be cool to talk one-on-one with other girls! Thank you! ~Lily, 11, OR

Dear RUTHY AND MASON from HANSA!
Hi, Ruthy, Mason and every new moon girl who is reading this! I wanted to tell you that I have been thinking if NMG should add a CHAT ROOM! I EVEN WANTED TO NAME IT “PEN-GIRLS!”. When I read what you both wrote, I felt excited that you are thinking kind of the same thing I am. I wanna talk to all of you. I know that, it must be hard to make a chat room or something, NMG.
Thank you both for making me realize I’m not the only one thinking this. Editor Autumn also said that there are other girls thinking about this thing, so a lot of thanks to her too!
NOTE: My new poem will be coming!! It may come in recording, (You will be finally able to hear my voice!!) though I can’t guarantee it…..

Dear Luna, I was reading Mason’s letter [see below!] and your response. Their message was something I was wondering about too, and I’ve been thrilled with Ask a Girl and the other interactive things that have been added. I thought maybe there could be a suggestions/ideas form just for the website, it could be a good place for people to send in ideas for things to add to the site here.
It would be amazing for there to be some sort of pen pals or messaging system, though I know it’s complicated and would probably require a lot of pressure on moderators. I really hope that at some point soon it and other things that we all loved back on the original GOC can be added, and in the meantime, I will continue contributing to Ask a Girl, Caption This, and more.

Hi Mason! This is a great question! You are definitely not the only one wondering!!!

Making a website like this is actually brand new to us. We are learning every day! Right now, we don’t know how to recreate some of the features, like profiles and messaging, that the old community had. But every day we ARE learning how to make this site more interactive.

I am very hopeful that each time we launch a new feature — like the new Ask a Girl that recently came online — your ways to communicate and support each other will increase. And I KNOW with creativity, dedication, and the ideas all of you share, we are going to make this place great!

Hey NMG Girls! – I thought it would be fun to talk about how I discovered NMG, because when reading Hansa’s wonderful story about she discovered NMG, I was tempted to write something similar! So, here it is! Sit back, relax, and enjoy the story!

It was the Early Summer of 2015, and I was at the Library!

So far, I hadn’t found any books that were of interest to me, so I walked over to a section with Fantasy Novels. But then, suddenly, I saw a Newsstand with a magazine called “New Moon Girls!” I was so eager to flip through it, because I hadn’t really read a magazine before this experience. As I sat down at the reading table, I was hooked! I was reading countless issues of NMG for two hours (not kidding)! I knew for sure that I wanted to check out some issues, so I could continue endlessly reading them. But, as soon as I walked up to the Checkout-Counter, the Librarian had some really sad news…..

“I’m sorry, Mason, but you can’t check these out.” She said. “They have to stay here. At the library.” I was so sad- because I couldn’t check out NMG! I was at the Library, for another hour, just reading NMG. At this point, I think I was throwing a Mental Tantrum. NMG was so amazing- and I really wanted to check it out!

I didn’t know about the GOC because I think I was 7 or 8 at the time, but if I knew about it then, and how to subscribe to NMG like I am today, I would totally go back to the past to do it!

Two years later, I randomly was in class, thinking about NMG. It was totally out of the blue, and just popped into my head. I was instantly reminded of NMG, and I knew I wanted to get some issues! And not ones I couldn’t check out. Ones I could keep!

So, I got my first NMG Issue, then a 4 Back Issues Pack, then another, then I started to get the more recent issues, and pretty soon enough, I became an official NMG Subscriber and Girls Online Community Member! I know the Online Community had to close, but I hope us NMG Girls can still support and have fun with each other!

Bonjour, girls! (That’s hello in French!) Today, I’m going to be a wolf (don’t worry, I won’t attack you!) and howl about a story about how I discovered (I’m talking like I’m an explorer! LOL) NMG. But before I start, I want to tell you that it’s a little long…maybe too much…So, you should read this when you’re cozy and comfortable and in mood for a long story. And I’m so happy you’re actually reading this! It’s a true story, and I hope you feel inspired after it. Well, Let us start, shall we?:

It was a hot afternoon and I was sitting besides my grandfather. The ice-cream on my hand was melting quickly, but I took no notice. I kept staring at the computer screen. Noticing my chittering teeth and muttering prayers, my grandfather asked me what was the matter. I told him I had written stories and took part in competitions and all, but no one had accepted my stories, and I was second-doubting myself. I mean, were my stories any good? Anyway, my grandfather smiled and took the computer. He was busy with it for many days. One unbearably hot morning he handed me a computer. It was opened on a word document and had a lot of links. “What-” before I could complete, my grandfather interrupted me. “These are many links of websites you may love. I don’t know anything about computers, you see, so I had to take help of your brother.” He explained. I was so happy. I hugged my grandfather tightly and he gave a wheezy laugh and smiled. I told him that it was so sweet of him and he said that he didn’t do anything, my brother did. (I thanked my brother too).I sat with my dog Silky (Grandfather was sleeping and I thought I would disturb him if I sat with him) and looked at the websites. Silky yawned and lay down near me. I put my hand on his smooth back and looked at the first website. That’s right, It was NMG! I thought I should give it a try and clicked it. I had to learn a bit about it, and when I did, I posted a Ask a girl question. It was about how I couldn’t come up with good ideas and that I wanted to write a perfect story. I checked every day to see if it was there. One day I was very sad because it had been many, many days. I thought I should give it a last check, and opened Ask a girl here. And it was there! I was extremely excited and read all the advice I tried them all and they helped me a lot. I end this this story with a message to all the girls out there: There’s a lot inspiration in the world, but it’s you who has to start the fire in your heart to go on. That’s all for today. Hey! It’s Hansa, and today I’m here to talk about what “Lights in darkness” means to me. ~ I think it means hope in hard times. It means, you shouldn’t ever give up hope, no matter how out of hand things get. Just try to stay calm and smile. ~ I think that it also means that hope is always there even when you think it’s not. ~ I wrote a poem about it, but I can show that to you sometime later. ~ Anyway, What do YOU think about it?
