There’s so much fun happening in the NMG world right now to share with you!
First, August 22 is Luna’s Birthday. She’s the spirit of New Moon Girls, not a person. Every girl can imagine Luna the way she wants to. And our members send us wonderful art showing who she is to them. Luna listens to girls everywhere and does her best to help them hang onto their dreams for themselves and the world, and make them happen. Luna was dreamed up by the Founding Girls Editorial Board in 1992 right around this time, but I don’t remember the exact date. My daughters’ birthday is August 22, and it seems fun to make that Luna’s birthday, too! Celebrate with us by sending in your drawing, painting, sketch, watercolor, digital art, of your vision of Luna. And there will be a special Luna’s Gift membership & renewal offer all day August 22 on NewMoon.com
Second, U.S. Women’s Equality Day is August 26. On this day we celebrate that women in the U.S. were finally granted the right to vote 95 years ago after 72 years of relentless grassroots organizing, protests, imprisonments, and political persuasion. And we always give a 26% discount on all online purchases that are made on August 26 so get the NMG things you’ve been Two great articles for parents and allies about girls and equality are free to read and share here: Modeling Equality at Home and Do Girls Successes Hurt Boys?
Third, we’re planning a new department in our magazine called We Can Do It! It’s about girls in real `life doing uncommon or brave or difficult things, and we have wonderful stories to share. Photos of girls ages 8-14 as a tribute to Rosie the Riveter – like the one above – will accompany the stories. Help the girl you love to get a photo of herself honoring Rosie in the classic pose and then upload it to us with parent permission.
